Blantyre Works Mills

1890s Blantyre Works Mills wmThanks to Alex Rochead for sharing this illustration of Blantyre Works Mills. I hadn’t seen it before so was delighted to see the detail. On the left is the Powerloom mill and after the break in the buildings, on the right is the Cotton Mill. The Madder mill out the picture to the right.

The chimney smoking away in full production, this looks like a 19th Century scene, perhaps in the third or last quarter of the 1800’s. The River Clyde snakes its way past these buildings seen here in the foreground. Behind the mills, the lade is out of sight.

Featuring Blantyre Project Social Media with permission. Strictly not for use by others on or offline, our visitors said,

Catherine Newell My grandmother worked a mill which then became Stevenson’s carpet factory where I also worked 1970
